Dear Dana,
JDHOVS@aol.com
The pain that your dad is experiencing may be this: First, the chemo
causes, as it should, toxicity in the body and adds to constipation.
When there is much constipation there there tends to be pains around the
body. Now, I am not a doctor, but it sounds like if he licks the
constipation and becomes regular that will solve some of the discomfort.
I would suggest he immediately call his doctor to prescribe a treatment
to relieve constipation. We overcame this by doing the following.
The night prior to chemo and during the morning of chemo, my Barb took
two tablespoons of milk of magnesia.
One day prior to and during the next week or two to increase water
consumption to 1 gal a day. This will do two things. Help with
regularity and avoid liver/kidney damage from toxicity of chemo.
He should eat about 6 little meals a day, and those things that are fat
free and for a day or so no salads. Things to eat are potatoes, rice and
beans.
Ask his oncologist about Ethyol, which is a new drug to be administered
with cisplatin to avoid kidney damage.
HOPe this info helps.
God Bless
marty
