Dear Jeanne and All,
One of our main concerns with this disease is the worry of metastasis to
liver. Barb has had a 3 cm cyst on her liver for 4 years as indicated
on the numerous cat scans taken periodically after chemo. WE are hoping
and praying that it is a benign cyst and it may appear to be that. But,
it is always a concern for us and I am certain for many.
The liver is as you know is a vital and remarkable organ. It not only
cleanses and purifies but adds to and supports the numerous nutrients
that feed to the and from the immune system. This is in laymans terms,
pls excuse the lack of medical terminology. We have learned that over
the many years that the liver when fed with so many foods that cause
overload or toxic build up as a result of non nutritious foods, such as
fat and sugar, etc that when we are diagnosed with a disease that liver
does double duty. It has to accept and purify the toxicity from the
treatment we receive and in addition pump at a rate that we have fed it
all these years. Those that have been on a nutritious diet as opposed to
those that were not, tends to have a healthier liver therefore having
the ability to deal more readily with treatment.
The programs that we read about on nutrition and the programs that we
learn from many or most nutritionists, holistic and naturalpaths all
seem to have one common goal in mind. DETOXY the liver from impurities
and toxicities in order to keep it healthy and pumping in the manner it
is intended. We cannot live without a healthy liver. That is the facts.
So, foods that detoxify the liver are whole grains, variety of beans
such as pinto, red, kidney, brown rice, green vegatables, soy products
as well as tofu, beets, etc.
A very well known Doctor who specialized on breast cancer was on MSNBC
last night addressing the issues of how to avoid breast cancer and one
of the methods is for low fat, low sugar diets.
The foods that detoxify the liver from toxicity build up also have
healing agents and means to help in avoiding other diseases such as
colon, prostate, breast, etc.
We as Americans, at a very early age, when our eyes first focus on T.V.
see the numerous commercials that deal with the fast foods, and
restaurant food favorites. While it all looks great and tastes great,
and we might say its nutritious, we have no idea what they prepare those
foods with, or how they store, or whether there is bacteria or numerous
other concerns.
NOw, I am not an officianado on nutrition or dietary additives or
supplements. I am one, just like you, who learns and tries because I
know what it had to take to bring Barb to a state of healthy and
mentally healthy means. Nutrition, exercise, spirituality, support,
love, fun, hobbies, purpose for living...all these things are equally
important to us. This is only my opinion and surely there are those that
would disagree and that is ok. I can only relate to what we believe in
that made my Barb well. For that, I wish to share with you and those
that find similar information as we did by reading all the books, even
those pamphlets that are left in the many chemotherapy depts allude to
the importance of a well balanced diet that includes a daily regimen of
5-9 fruits and vegatables.
So, that is my opinion, for what its worth. I like to share our healthy
experiences with those that are newly diagnosed as there was no one
there for us at time of diagnosis. I like to think that I, as well as
you, like to be there for those that are in need, feel helpless and
hopelessness. YOu all do it so well. I like to believe that we all have
leared and experienced our ways to find health and to me, as it is you,
a blessing to give back, to share with those who are in need.
HOpe this helps.
God Bless
