Pet scans is a very specific test/technique by which is more devisive to
detect any abnormalities smaller than a cat scan. Actually it is a cat
scan but more progressive in technique and technology. It is very
expensive as the preparation and testing is longer and there is a lack
of as qualified and machines available. But it is a more progressive
means of detecting abnormalities, say as with cat scans.

HOpe this helps in laymans terms. That is why many of us support pet
scans as it detects abnormalities less than .5cm whereas cat scans are
limited to that.
