Subject: [MOL] To Betty Kula

Dear Betty -- I'll bet your suspicion about your surgeon's attitude toward cancer treatment is correct!  When my husband had a tumor under his tongue, his internist referred him to a surgeon.  The surgeon recommended cutting out the lump immediately before it had even been diagnosed as malignant.  Since this involved removal of most of his lower jaw, we searched for a different solution.  A friend suggested a major teaching hospital in New York where the tumor was successfully treated with radiation.

Lillian and Marty have already written you with a lot of good thinking on this subject but I thought my husband's experience might be helpful, too.  It certainly supports the value of examining options.  The general feeling among MOLers is to keep looking until you find a course of treatment and an oncologist you are comfortable with.

This is such a terrible difficult period for you, Betty.  I hope knowing so many people are standing by willing to do anything they can to help you through it will ease your mind a little.  We are a feisty bunch, always ready to join in the fight against cancer.  And MOL has seen so many wonderful victories!

I'm glad you found our group and am looking forward to your next message.

Your new friend, Claire
