Dear Jeanne,
Sorry if I am responding somewhat delayed. You probably have your answer
by now. This is my opinion.
Oncologists for the most part other than the Dr. Siegels and Dr.
Simontons and Dr Weils, have not the medical background or
qualifications to state whether alternatives are condusive while under
treatment. Typically their reponse may be as you said or "they are not
scientifically proven, but should not harm you". Now the same holds true
if you conversed your conventional therapy concerns with a naturalpath
as many naturalpaths/holistic doctors will tell you that conventioanal
treatment is not good for you. So both the conventional and alternative
medical community is divided only because they just are not knowledgable
about each others treatments.
I would suggest this: Every medical facility has a nuritionist and chemo
nurse department. If they are familiar with the vitamins and supplements
that you are ingesting then they should have that expertise to tell you
whether you should be on these or not. You may wish to go so far, and I
would encourage you to do so, is to call the manufacturer and see if
their products reacts to chemo. Think of this, that the vitamin or
supplement is to support the dietary foods that the supplement is meant
to support. If you are allergic to those foods that bother you when
taking chemo then you may not wish to take the vitamin as the vitamin
will do little good should it not have a dietary product to support.
Barb was on many, vitamins and supplements and we know of many as well
during chemo. Barb had no reaction other than some overdosing to certain
vitamins and supplements, (few though). The body tells you when you are
overdosing and then you cut back. I believe that if someone eats
nutritious and takes the supplements during chemo will enhance the
immune system as the immune system is compromised from both the cancer
and the chemo. The immune system needs nutrition in order to function
and the vitamins will support those foods so necessary and vital during
treatment. By the way I know of no vitamin or supplement to support
sugar, LOL. Kidding. Something to think about. Tumors feed off sugar.
That is what we were told by many. So sugar is not part of our diet or
has been a couple of years, (although we cheat once in a while with
moderation for occasions and little)
take care Jeanne. Hope this helps and hope you are not angry for my
responding so late
Now all this is based on our experience during Barb wellness journey. I
am not an expert or nutritionist, so pls I encourage you to verify all
information that I suggested by the professionals.
God Bless
