Dear Heather -- I am so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law's diagnosis of
cancer in the throat. Both my husband and my father-in-law (both smokers, too)
had throat cancer and were successfully treated with radiation.
I whole-hearted agree with Lillian's suggestion that he consider combining
traditional and alternative therapies. If traditional therapy is used, the
sooner the treatment starts the better the prognosis. An important aspect of
successful cancering is taking control of the disease and fighting it
aggressively.
In the case of my husband and father-in-law, the treatment consisted of
radiation five days a week for six weeks. The side effects were far from
devastating. They were occasionally uncomfortable but did not feel that they
had "suffered." I have no experience with chemotherapy for throat cancer but
very likely someone in the forum will know about it.
A number of MOLers have effectively combined traditional and alternative
therapies and will be happy to share their thoughts with you and give you many
helpful suggestions.
We will be looking forward to hearing more about your brother-in-law. Please
tell him that we wish him well and will remember him in our prayers.
Your friend, Claire
