Tina,
American Airlines (and probably some of the other larger airlines) offer
what they call "compassionate" fares for deaths in family, critical
illness/injuries, etc. I'm not sure what the requirements are for the
critical illness/injuries but it would be worth a call to find out. The
only reason I know about this is because I had a friend here in Dallas whose
son was in a bad car wreck in Norfolk, VA, and was not expected to live and
they gave her greatly reduced fares and priority seating. Thank God her son
did live but those reduced rates really helped her a lot. If you do call,
please let me know what they say as far as requirements. Thanks!!
