Subject: [MOL] Loss of Weight after Total Gastrectomy
My 81 year old dad had a total gastrectomy almost two years ago and had an
excellent surgical result. The only continuing problem is that he has lost
almost 50 pounds and can't seem to put the weight back on. I have been
reading a lot lately about the role insulin plays in weight gain and loss,
particularly Doctors Eades "Protein Power" about how carbohydrates--not fat
and protein--make us gain weight. Does anyone have information about whether
insulin plays a role in the post-surgical weight loss like my dad has had??

(On the Home Page of Medicine On Line (MOL) go to
Medline. This is a service of the National Library of Medicine which
provides literature searches in the medical journals. When you enter the
name of the cancer it will return articiles from the
last 3 years. The cancer links contains patient files. The Medicine
On Line Cancer Services are listed there including some quite good
international sites.)
