My 81 year old dad had a total gastrectomy almost two years ago and had an excellent surgical result. The only continuing problem is that he has lost almost 50 pounds and can't seem to put the weight back on. I have been reading a lot lately about the role insulin plays in weight gain and loss, particularly Doctors Eades "Protein Power" about how carbohydrates--not fat and protein--make us gain weight. Does anyone have information about whether insulin plays a role in the post-surgical weight loss like my dad has had??
