[MOL] The Family Genes and Breast Cancer Report

The Family Genes
The BRCA1 genetic mutation is associated with the risk of developing
breast or ovarian cancer. Researchers at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill discovered that BRCA1 mutations were more
frequent in women who had a family history of cancer than in women with
no such family history. Based on these results, some scientists suggest
that testing for BRCA1 in women who don't have a family history of
cancer may prove unnecessary and costly. -- Source: Journal of the
American Medical Association, March 25, 1998
