Dear Todd
I was diagnosed with Stage IV Small Cell Lung Cancer with metasis to the brain in
October 1997. I am only 56 years of age and I was devestated. Prognosis was not
good. I was determined to "beat" this cancer. I read books and they helped immensely
with my attitude.(please get "getting well again" by
Dr. Simington for mom.)Please let me know if you need further book suggestions.
I underwent brain surgery, radiation to the brain and and chemotherapy. The chemo
used was cisplatin and vinblastine (this is a very strong chemo). After that, I
received three weeks (5 days a week, 2X a day) of radiation and three weeks (5 days
per week, 1X a day) of chemotherapy. It was rough but I got thru it.
YES THERE IS HOPE FOR YOUR MOM. NO ONE (not even the physician)KNOWS HOW THE
TREATMENTS WILL WORK ON YOUR MOM. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE, AS OF 1 AND 1/2 WEEKS AGO.
I AM IN REMISSION. REMEMBER, SUPPORT IS SO IMPORTANT FOR CANCER PATIENTS (FROM
FAMILY, FRIENDS, SUPPORT GROUPS, AND MOL. READING MATERIAL, ETC.) ALSO, KEEPING THE
MIND BUSY IS IMPORTANT. I FOUND THAT CROSSWORD PUZZLES AND MAGAZINES WERE A GREAT
SOURCE.I ALSO PLAN ON RETURNING TO WORK THE FIRST OF MAY.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU NEED ANSWERED AND PLEASE GET THE
BOOK FOR MOM.
I'LL BE REMEMBERING MOM IN MY DAILY PRAYERS.
