Thanks for your reply, Marty. Actually, Loma Linda, together with our
pulmonologist, has already determined that George will not be a
candidate for Proton, unfortunately, but we have heard such high praise
of Loma Linda, and George wanted a second opinion, so that is why we are
going there. George is a retired school teacher who has been a realtor
off and on for at least 20 years, and like all of us, thought this
would never happen. He was diagnosed the first part of December, having
a mass in his lungs that has spread to his bronchials, also he has
numerous small lesions throughout his lungs, therefore eliminating him
from any photodynamic therapy. He is taking Cantron, and decided to wait
until it did or did not produce results before doing chemo or
radiation. Our pulmonologist, who is a graduate and one of the promoters
the Proton center at Loma Linda, now thinks that chemotherapy may worsen
his condition at this point. We have an appointment next Wednesday, and
are looking forward to seeing that part of California again, and know
the doctors there are wonderful. He has not lost weight and his appetite
is great, but doesn't talk a great deal without coughing, eventually
they say his breathing tube will close but they can open that with a
laser treatment, for which I am greatly relieved. We went from constant
exercise (avid square and round dancers, and George is a dedicated
Oregon hunter and fisherman) to no exercise because of the coughing and
the RAIN that our part of Oregon actually has very little of, but we
have seen the sun for part of two days, so can start walking now.
He has so enjoyed the articles, jokes, and words of enouragement. Even
though he is dedicated to remaining computer illiterate, he is most
adamant that I keep up so he knows what is going on. Thanks again, and
God Bless all of you, Joan.
