Re: [MOL] lung cancer

Hi

First, do you know what stage he was dx at, NSCLC has 5 stages,
stage 1,2,3a,3b, and 4. Surgery is possibly thru state 3a, chemo and
radiation of course for all stages.
If you have the complete dx, call 1-800-4-CANCER, ask for the latest
information for his dx, including current clinical trials.
On the web, here are several sites for more information on lung cancer.

Has your Dad had a second opinion? Do you live near Houston (M.D Anderson)
or New York (Memorial Sloan Kettering) these are two of the top Cancer
hospitals in US.
Please give us more details and I'm sure you will hear from many others
from this group.
There really isn't a "normal" treatment, each person is so unique, that
what works for one may not work for another, some common types of
chemo that I have seen used with NSCLC is Cisplatin or Cisplatin/Navelbine
combination, Taxol or Taxol/ with a platium based combo. A newer chemo
that I'm not sure has been approved for Lung cancer, but has been used
in trials is Taxotere ( I believe Barbara (in our group) said she was on
Taxotere outside a trial.
My brother was dx with stage 3b NSCLC Mar 7, 1997 and had 25
radiation treatments and at same time started on Cisplatin/Navelbine
combo, he is still taking this treatment.
Please keep in touch and let us know more.
You, your family and your Dad will be in my thoughts.
Take Care
Diana
