Re: [MOL] Colon Cancer

Melinda,
I know of an experimental treatment that's being used on Stage II colon
cancer at the suggestion of a doctor at U.C. San Francisco. I don't know the
name of the actual drug, but it is monoclonal antibodies, and was purchased
from a German pharmaceutical company for $5000 or $6000 on a "compassionate
use" basis. (I don't believe it has been approved by the FDA, but I'm not sure.)

Meanwhile, there are lots of resources on the 'net of course, and some off:

The National Cancer Institute...can be reached by Internet and phone and
will advise on the latest clinical trials available, who is conducting
them and where. Phone is 1-800-4CANCER and two good sites are
http://www.nci.nih.gov
http://rex.nci.nih.gov
One site is more technical, the other more general...both are valuable.
Another site for general cancer information is the NCCS Guide to Cancer
Resources at:
http://www.access.digex.net/~mkragen/non-java.html
Two of the best cancer hospitals in the United States are:
M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas
http://www.mdanderson.org
and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City
http://www.mskcc.org

There is a lot of information out there..hope you can target your searches
to get the best info available...keep us posted....

My 41 year old brother died 2 years ago from the same type cancer. My
mother died 15 years ago from lung cancer and her mother died the day I was
born from breast cancer. Our family is frantic for information on new
treatment and genetic testing. I have sent several e-mails to MD Anderson
and Johns Hopkins with no real help form either. If anyone has information
on new drugs or treatment please pass that information along. We are
interested in experimental programs also. I'm tired of watching my family die.
