I brought my mom (Mary, dx nsclc 10-97 stage IIIb) to the Longevity
Institute in Los Gatos, CA. We were referred through a friend of a
friend. I first started my mom on the Shark Cartilage pills at Price
Costco. I tried to find out what dosage the friend was taking, but all
I was told was "mega doses". I found out that "mega doses" means at
least a 100 pills a day of the type we get at the local pharmacy or
Price Costco. The MD at the Longevity Institute said he gives a regimen
of vitamins along with the shark cartilage, so he's not sure if it's the
vitamins all by themselves, the combo with shark cartilage or the shark
cartilage all by itself that works. All I know is that we spent nearly
$300 on vitamins and $420 on liquid shark cartilage. The shark
cartilage we purchased is called CarTcell in one unit vials. Mom takes
one vial every morning. The company is located in Canada, however, it
was shipped to us (via the doctor) from Allergy Research Group (a
division of NutriCology, Inc) in San Leandro, CA. I am going to see if
we can buy it direct rather than through the MD. Mom has taken it for a
few weeks now. This is her second round of chemo and she is doing so
much better (we started the vitamins and s.c. two days before her second
chemo). We have to wait and see if there is any improvement when she
takes her chest x-ray next Monday. If all goes well, she will have her
third chemo of Taxotere/Carboplatin on 2-12.
