Hello Arlene
We asked our oncologist about shark cartilage and essiac teas and his response
was, go ahead, it should not cause any harm, but he is unconvinced that they
have any benefits.
I am also fairly new to the cancer arena, but from what I have been able to
gather so far, the proponents of these non-standard treatements are claiming
unusually high success rates. One check by NCI regarding Antioplastin was
that the Doctor had selected the best results and claimed that these were
typical.
But, within reason, it seems to me that one should err on the adventurous
side. My wife took the shark cartilage for awhile then quit. Did not do the
teas.
I got literature from Dr. Berzynski's group and they said it requires a site
visit for evaluation at $300. Then the first month's supply was about $7,000
or so. In the case where they administer his stuff via pump, the pump is
about another $5,000. Then the cost levels off at about $4,000 or so per
month. The medical insurance folks will almost certainly not reimburse you
for these types of treatments.
Berzinski's folks claim that they have been unfairly harrassed by the Cancer
overlords because antineoplastin is a threat to conventional cancer treatment
approaches and may cause large monetary losses to the rest of the service
providers. I do not believe that there is such a conspiracy and would be
careful of anyone who uses such ploys to justify their situations.
Of course there are some out there who are simply false and after anyone's
money with no regard for the grief they increase, so be careful.
Good luck, Bob
