Taxol and taxotere are not the same drug. Taxotere is considered the second
generation of the taxol type drugs. At this time, taxotere is only available
for lung cancer in the US as part of a clinical trial. Initial phase 2 trials
showed taxotere to have a slightly higher response rate than taxol. Now they
have to find the best 2nd and or 3rd chemos to mix with it to get the best
cocktail. I was very interested to see that someone was trying taxotere with
carboplatin because I heard that that had fewer side-effects than cisplatin,
but everyone is affected differently.
Taxol isn't even an old drug, but taxol/carboplatin is already considered the
best "standard" chemo treatment in the US. You might be interested (and find
