Breast cancer risk remains for women with family history but no
BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations

WESTPORT, Dec 29 (Reuters Health) - A family history of breast
cancer puts women at higher risk of disease than women with no
family history, even if they do not carry BRCA1 or BRCA2
mutations. In the December 2nd issue of the Journal of the
National Cancer Institute, Dr. Elizabeth B. Claus of the Yale
University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, and
colleagues at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, describe
a study in which they calculated the probability that individual
women would carry a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation.
