Jeanne: Your home sounds so appealing to me, as does your lifestyle. Your mother sounds like a terrific woman -- to encourage you to use your brain. My mother is like that, too -- a genuine, not pseudo -- intellectual. She started me reading before I was in the first grade. I am, however, sorry that you can't make mukluks. I think they're so neat! We spend a lot of money, too -- on spending time with our friends -- eating out, etc. We have one source of transportation -- a 1995 Chevy pickup truck! I hate the thing -- it's too expensive and I'm not into vehicles, anyway. hate to drive, so I rarely do. I used to enjoy it, but Boise is beginning to resemble parts of California, and I'm claustrophobic in traffic -- have major panic attacks. I love to go antiquing, refinish furniture, and visit flea markets. I also bake bread. Here's how you do it: You buy a Krusteaz bread mix. Dump the mix in your breadmaker, add some water and the yeast packet. Hit the button that says bread ordinaire (or something like that). Come back four hours later and dump the bread out. Eat the whole loaf and hate yourself. LOL

Hi, Liz, It really is unfortunate that women have to feel they need to do
so much at work, home and extended family. The more we do, the more we are
admired and leaned on.
I am basically lazy, so Cathy got to acquire the skills I don't have...
like cooking, sewing, floral arranging and decorating. I am a very good
cleaner, stuff mover and organizer. I am always looking for a chance to
recycle stuff as well. Then we need it the next day and I have to fess up.
My values are an odd mixture of Cree and Christianity. Luckily, James was
brought up in a family that VERY thrifty. Unfortunately, that meant
"packrat!". His folks brought a new couch when the old one collapsed one
day. Mary, his mom, canned everything, made her own bread (I don't!). My
mom wanted me to use my brains so never got to learn how to make mukluks or
tan hide. Now I wish I could. We drive a 76 stationwagon, a car we never
have problems finding in a parking lot! LOL! Our furniture is a combo of
flea market finds, some I stripped myself before we married. We use one set
of plates, one set of sheets at a time. Yet, we have people say how
comfortable our home is. Would they lie! The thought of buying something
like a new car or furniture with a shiny surface makes me shudder! A friend
of mine, brought a shiny, red and very new car and she has to worry about
where she parks it, like you have to avoid corner parking spaces, in case
someone clips you!
In case we sound too virtuous, we spend a lot of money on trips and
sampling restaurants.We love walking and then having lunch somewhere. I
think we ATE our money away. My vice is buying books. Now it goes for
supplements and I use the library.
