Hi, Nanette: I am a small cell lung cancer survivor -- one year last week. I went through aggressive chemo and radiation. It sounds to me as if you're on the right track, and I have only one suggestion -- Ensure. I lost a lot of weight on the chemo, and the Ensure helped me keep some of it on. I drank three of them a day. My doctor was very much in favor of this. Also, your friend should drink a lot, and I mean A LOT, of water. There are others on this forum who will have many more good suggestions. Kathy in Boise

Subject: [MOL] Lung cancer help?
Hi,
I have a friend that just found out he has lung cancer topped with pneumonia. I don't know if it is small cell or not, as I am reading all these articles.
I do know that he is starting chemotherapy tomorrow and I wanted to get foods and items that may come in helpful for him while he is going through this treatment. I called a doctor this morning and started to put together a care package of items that might be useful.Such as alcohol free mouth wash, small containers of juices, instant mash potato etc.. I tried to find foods that don't require allot of chewing ( the doctor said chewing takes up energy) Also, because of the pneumonia to stay away from milks and thick foods.
Can any one here help give me some suggestions on care package items? I got some broth soups and instant cream of wheats, but I just think I have over looked items, because I don't know enough.
I would really appreciate any tips on good useful care package tips for someone going through chemotherapy.
Thank you in advance for your help.
