[MOL] Amitriptyline does not help a specific type of pain

Dear Folks,

This is posted because some of us may be on amitriptyline. This
medication is sometimes prescribed in a low dose to try to help control
the itching (pruritus) that often accompanies PV. The itching nerve
signal travels through the same nerve pathways as pain signal. You can
think of itching as a mild form of pain.

Please bear in mind that I am not a physician, nor am I even a health
professional. Always work with your hematologist and follow his or her
guidelines and direction.

My Barb has used this for sometime with the understanding it would
relieve neuropathy. That was not the case and did not have any
substantial in effect.

Acupuncture and Amitriptyline did not help HIV pain

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) -- Although both acupuncture and the
antidepressant amitriptyline are used to treat pain due to HIV-
related nerve damage, neither treatment was found to relieve this
pain in a new scientific study. The report is published in the
November 11th issue of The Journal of the American Medical
Association.
