Jeanne and Kathy,
I love Allie McBeal too. I think it is becasuse it is so off the wall. It
is also very well written. Its irreverance is one of the things that adds
to its charm. They also use computer graphics very creatively.
I agree about Niles on Frasier, but I feel Frasier has slipped in quality
this year. I think the problem is, prior to this year they depended on the
interaction of a fine ensemble cast which gave great contrast to the
pompousness of Frasier and Niles. This years shows have quit using the rest
of the cast as much and focused too much on Frasier and Niles. With no
"common people" to add the voice of reason, much of the comedy is lost.
Happy Holiday season. Our company gives us Friday after Thanksgiving off.

>Morning, Jeanne. Oh, I won't give up on Ally -- I LOVE the show -- I'm just
>not always sure why!!! It fascinates me, I guess. You're right about Nell.
>This thing between her and John really has me going. For some reason, I
>adore John -- sort of like I do Niles on Frasier. Yes, I'll continue with
>my duties as the Ally McBeal "summarizer," although I feel you are really

>short bald guy, by the way. LOL Love, Kathy

>>Kathy, I saw your commentary. Don't give up on the show yet. It is a good
>>un, generally with very good writers. Cathy has been watching the show
>>since year 1. I've seen about 5 shows. The target population seems to be
>>the mostly single population that have pulled up stakes from wherever they
>>are and are now on their own in the big city. They are successful, of more
>>than modest means and irreligious. They are cruel at times to others
>>outside their social rank. Yet the show surprises me. They ARE young..
>>Allie is self-centered (Georgia ..."Why is always about Allie?! Allie keeps
>>getting talked into blind dates. Then she doesn't have the courage to dump
>>them. The women of the office have to bail her out in creative ways. Why
>>doesn't she learn! Because she and all the others (Bobby got his and what
>>did his "No" to John say about him!)are looking for their soul mates. She
>>does have standards. She won't go with men younger than herself regardless
>>of their attraction. She won't browse another woman's patch. She could have
>>had the bowling ball sawed off. Nell is the most likable. She is the fairy
>>queen, Wise, compassionate and beautiful. Even Ling says "I need comfort.
>>Where's Nell? And what is Ling?
>>
>>Another comment. Canadians are much less religous than Americans. I am NOT
>>going to start on this. Keep up the commentary. It was an eye-opener for
>>me. I didn't remember the kissing scene until you mentioned it!
>>
>>PS... the guy who plays the blind date. I think I saw him in Jumanji as a
>>gun dealer but bald! Jeanne
