Dear Sylvia: I have been watching Lizbeths' progress carefully. I also
just read Lillians message. I am encouraged by Lizbeths' progress and feel
that the situation is beginning to turn itself around.
I think probably the most important point that Lillian made is her
suggestion on the internist. The reason I say this is due to a point I
mentioned some time ago to you which you may not have received. I remember
some time ago stating that Lizbeth was taking some fifteen different
medications at the same time.
These medications were probably prescribed by as many as eight or ten
different doctors. In addition, when we get up there in years, known as elder
statesmanship, some confusion is a reality. And with so many medications being
taken simultaneously, not only is confusion a factor, but adverse drug
interaction becomes more and more likely.
So, if I may kindly put my two sense (how's that for a play on words?)
in, I would, if I were you, take a carefully made list of meds to my
pharmacist and explain the situation to him, leave the list with him and ask
him to review it and give you any suggestion he might have and note any
conflicts he sees.
I think I might even then take that list to a second pharm. and have him
review it.
And when you guys find that internist, I would specifically charge him
with the job of playing mastermind with the pharmacy. This way you have one
person to deal with on this issue. But please beget yourself to a pharmacist,
the sooner the better.
