Dear Kathy: Hi. I am sorry my reply is so slow in coming to you. I
started one the other day and it as well as the original got wiped when AOL
connection was lost. So now I found one of your messages and can reply.
I am going to make this a two part reply and deal with the easiest part
first. 714X first came to my attention about a month ago when this group got a
message to all from a fellow who claimed to have just been released from
federal prison where he said he was put as a result of "his efforts to sell
714X here in the U.S. for the treatment of cancer". He was actually looking
for sympathy, I think. And from people whose lives could depend on steering
clear of what appears to be a non-approved drug with dubious credentials. This
drug was "developed" in Canada and that about sums up my knowledge to date on
this little nugget.
The next step will be to get in touch with the FDA and see what really
happened and what they can tell us about this drug.
It seems that a certain percentage of people have a paranoiac attitude
about the government and the FDA, sometimes not altogether unwarranted. But
the fact is that the system was set up to bring the best candidate drugs and
treatments to market in a reasonable, protective and somewhat conservative
fashion. It's not perfect, like our democratic system isn't, but it's the best
there is so far, with built-in corrections for some of it's faults; i.e., the
orphan disease act, to bring drugs to market that might not get attention in
our capitalistic structure. Always room for improvement, too!
So, as Paul Harvey would say, " and now for the rest of the story" as
soon as the answer is forthcoming from FDA.
Sincerely
Bill[WmCVB111@aol.com]
