Greetings everyone. Judy Simonds is graciously letting me use her computer
(actually I am in her son's room and he is quietly studying).
I am still in New Orleans with no definite plans on when I will return to
Houston. Got our extended tax return filed and did the most immediate tasks
regarding cancelling contracts and business obligations through the new year,
so now I am trying to concentrate on healing. Nightime is the worst, as my
family turns in at 10 and as you know, that was the shank of the evening for
Charlie and me.
We were very lucky that hurricane Georges did not directly hit New Orleans.
We did not have power for about 36 hours, and so I spent lots of time laying
in bed next to the open window watching the trees blowing in the high wind and
feeling very still and small. Then if I would drift off to sleep and be
awakened by thunder or howling wind, I would feel as if I were being tossed
about on a ship - not still at all... A strange dichotomy, but a paralell to
my emotions now which span loneliness to intense relief that the suffering is
over.
I know returning home to the empty house with a million reminders will be
tough, so I am not pushing it.
Carla, Lil, Sylvie, Marty, Ross, Les, Betty K, and all my other pals, I hope
this finds you all well. I really miss you and pray for your health and
serenity.

PS Got the nicest handwritten letter from Dr Khuri, who was out of town the
weekend of the memorial service. I am so happy I had an audio and video tape
of the service made, I am sending him one.
