Lee -- I think Claire is right. I had to be very careful last winter NOT to be around anyone with a cold. My doctor was very worried that I'd catch a cold or the flu. I didn't though -- I waited until my chemo was over and then caught the worst summer cold I've ever had! No permanent damage, though. All better. -- Kathy

Lee -- You may not be contagious by this time since a cold is supposed to run its
course in seven days but why take a chance? Chemo devastates white cells (at
least the chemo I'm familiar with) and leaves the patient unprotected against
infection. When I was going through chemo, my onc advised me to avoid any
contact with people I didn't know (like don't go shopping, etc.) when my white
cell count was at its low point which was, I think, for ten days starting about a
week after the end of each chemo treatment. Your mom's onc or his nurse or
medical assistant can tell you when it's safe to visit her.
If you can't check, my suggestion is to hold off until you're sure it's safe. I
know that's really rough on you but it's best for your mom.
Hang in there, Lee. We're all pulling for you. Your friend, Claire
