Dear John: Does your mother have a doctor {oncologist} who is positive
and tells your mother that he will try to cure her? The only reasons that I
can think of for the doctors to stop the treatments are: #1 the treatments
have run their course{ she has maxed out}; #2 the reaction to the treatments
are so severe and so affect quality-of -life that they outweigh the benefits;
#3 your mom needs to find another oncologist, who will not lie to her but has
a positive mental attitude and can communicate this to your mother. This is
very important when dealing with cancer!
Also, there is a whole other world, two actually, out there as far as
treatment goes when you reach the " now what" stage; one is alternative
treatments, which are outside the regular treatment protocols [ I don't
recommend this except as something to be persued along with or after regular
therapy methods]; the other, and this sounds like where you might be, is
biological treatments, such as the use of light-sensitive chemicals which are
picked up by the tumor cells, and they then go in with a laser to zap the
cells after two or three days. There are more like this.
I strongly recommend this telephone number to you: 1-800-433-0464. This
is the number for the Annette and Richard Bloch Foundation. They will send you
three books, free-of-charge, one of which i recommend highly,"Fighting
Cancer". It has many, many resouces for you to use. But I think the most
important thing it talks about and demonstrates is the importance of a proper,
positive attitude. This attitude will allow you to make the proper decisions
in this battle.
Stay with us and let us help. We are all fellow journey-takers here!
Sincerely
