Re: [MOL] Christine, Meteor showers

Christine, sure helps to have a dark sky, besides it was only 1 week off
the full moon on August 7th. Still we did see several good ones around 11
pm just off our north balcony, from the constellation Perseus. The peak
period for watching meteors is 1 am to 5 am. when "the nightime side of
earth faces in the direction in which it moving in its orbit around the
sun. The after-midnight or forward side of earth sweeps more meteors than
the before midnight or trailing side." Like walking into a snow storm. Your
clothes have a lot more snow in front than back. Earth whizzes along at
67,000 miles an hour. This is all from my handy guide called "Nightwatch".
I still have very vivid picture in my head of the night stars and the
perfect place for watching would have a 360 degree view, pitch black, warm.
I would probably fall asleep. Ever see the northern lights? We lived on
within the circle of aurora activily so we saw them even in the summer. I
have seen them twice only in BC and it was the red aurora. I have a video
tho if I get homesick.

I checked my book, there was a conjunction on April 23 1998 when Venus was
a half a degree from Jupiter in the morning sky. Your alignment, would that
be when "Jupiter, Saturn and Mars will cluster together in the evening
sky"? Sounds like your alignment means all the planets.???? Whats the diff
anyway between a conjunction and an alignment. The guide mentions that on
Feb 23 99, Venus will be a quarter degree from Jupiter in the evening sky.
Will probably raining here.
