I need some help interpreting the following information.
My Father-in-Law had surgery in October of 1996 to open an enlarged
prostrate. The surgery was cut short due to excessive bleeding. The Doctor
said that he only completed half of the planned operation, but my
Father-in-Law received much relief.
At the time he was told that everthing was OK!
Now over a year later he has had a physical, by a family doctor, and a P.S.A.
test. The results were 7.5!
The rsults were reported to the urologist and he said that the P.S.A of 7.5
was ok. When ask how that compared to the P.S.A. prior to surgery the
Urologist said he had never gotten the results from the surgeon or even had a
copy of the Pathology Report.
The urologist, after talking with the surgeon, found that the pathology
report had showed that there were three tissues that showed cancer, but he
wanted to wait for a second P.S.A test in about a month.
I had my Father-in-law check on the Gleason score. He was told it was 2+3=5
involving three tissues.
Now, why wait for a future P.S.A test if the Pathology report shows that
cancer was existent a year ago. Should there be a second opinion?
