[MOL] Update on my Mom (Mary)

Hi,

Mom had her first chemo today (Taxotere/Carboplatin). She's in a
clincial study at the South Bay Oncology and Hematology Group in
Campbell, CA. We were told so far there are only 4 patients (including
mom) in this study and two are really doing great. They are only
accepting a total of 20 in this study. Mom had been taking several
vitamins (Selenium, St. John's wort, shark's cartilage, E-tea, vit B-6,
B-12, E) all week to prepare. I must say that since she was diagnosed
with nsclc, stage IIIb, in November, she has never had the burst of
energy she had last night. Usually she would just sit in a chair with a
hooded sweater on and close her eyes. She could barely walk and was
always too tired to do anything. Last night she was laughing, walked a
lot around the house, and I was shocked when I saw her go behind my
couch and bend over to pick up a blanket one of the kids had thrown
there. I don't know if it was the vitamins or not, but I'm going to have
her continue taking them. The day before chemo she took Decadron (2
tablets in a.m. and 2 tablets in p.m.) and she will continue to take
this for a total of three days. The onco said this is to help reduce
edema. Her chemo time lasted two hours. She will now go in daily for
seven days to get a Neupagen(?) shot. I was really surprised that she
had no adverse reaction to today's treatment (I heard so many stories
about patients getting so sick). She's really taking this a lot better
than I thought. We are just praying that this will help. So far the
cancer is only in the left lung (3 spots) has not spread any further
than the fluid surrounding the lung. Thanks to all for all the great
advice and support.

To: Glee S. - Yes Dr. Porzig is still at this clinic. We were told that
he is a very popular oncologist there. Mom's oncologist is Dr.
Schechter.
