Hi Shirley (and everyone else),
For what it's worth, I have nsclc Stage II adenocarcinoma and have just had
my first ONC appointment and he recommends
Carboplatin with Taxol chemotherapy in four administrations over a twelve
week period. The rationale is that it has been
shown to be effective in more advanced cancers (so, coincides with what your
mom is told..)
. I'm going for a second opinion soon, to UC San Francisco's top lung cancer
med. oncology specialist and I'll pass on what he has to say as well.
In my case the chemo is considered optional, but recommended if I want to be
"proactive". (I am considered "cancer free" I guess, at this point)...
Of course I want to be proactive, but the list of
side effects includes "nerve damage" and that scares me...it sounds
permanent and possibly very painful.
Does anyone have any information or experience with nerve damage arising
from chemo with these two drugs?
All my best to you and your Mom, Shirley....
Torie
