hi, I am a 33 yr old male and was diagnosed 5 yrs ago with essential
thrombocythemia. Since then I have attended hospital every 2 to 4 weeks
and for most of that time have been treated with hydroxyurea although
last year I tried interferon and hated it. I had a lot of side effects
which in the end I couldn't cope with - mostly flu and temperatures and
itching. I am the only one of my generation being treated at the
hospital and feel as isolated as your son probably does. good luck,
