Dear Linda:
When my mother was dying I told her "I don't want to loose you", she
responded with "you have never been selfish in your life, why are you
starting now?" This stunned me into some serious thinking. She was right,
if the quality of her life was gone the nicest thing I could do was to
simply be there to listen and let her go gently. I never gave up hope; but
I realized I couldn't control the situation. I almost died myself about a
year ago, and the friends that would just listen are the one's I am most
grateful to. I don't know how they hung in there for me; but somehow those
few had the strength and simply cried with me. No pretense and guess who
lived? Me! Keep the hope, be there; but be yourself, our prayers are with
you.
