Re: [MOL] Some more info

Hi Nina,
All I know from experience is that if you're in pain, it's difficult to
breathe as deeply as you would otherwise do, and that as the pain
diminishes, the breathing gets easier and deeper. I had a lobectomy (about
a third of my right lung) on November 18.and had to be on oxygen for a while
after coming home...
A nurse I had suggested that when using the incentive spirometer to measure
the breathing, that it's best to use it at the point where the pain
medication is doing the most good...i.e. half an hour or an hour after
taking it, or whatever the interval is for the patient,..to get the best
results..rather than to try every hour or whatever...
I'm finding that I breathe deepest when I have some exertion...I realize
this is a challenge, with the periocarditis, etc..I would guess the pain
needs to resolve better before you see better lung capacity results...maybe
the doctors could reconsider whatever pain meds she's on to strengthen them??

Good luck......
Torie
