[MOL] Essential Thrombocythemia

Recently my wife was diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia. The
physician (Hematologist) who diganosed her gave me some reason for
concern: She was diagnosed with a very high platelet count, 700,000 to
900,000, on 3 separate occasions. The doctor stated that he couldn't be
sure whether or not it was essential thrombocythemia or myloid lukemia
unless he performed a bone marrow biopsy. For some reason, he was unable
to draw bone marrow from my wife during the biopsy. He said that he had
a really hard time during the procedure. He further stated that since he
was unable to draw the bone marrow that he really didn't need it anyway
and that my wife had essential thrombocythemia based on previous
observations (spleen & liver scans).

He further went on to say that no treatment was necessary at this time
since she wasn't having any real symptoms.

I appreciate any guidance you can give me.

Sincerely,

Bob Evans
