[MOL] Cancer Care Quality Review Service

You might be interested in the Cancer Care Quality Review Program offered through   CareCounsel  in conjunction with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

CareCounsel helps individuals with cancer to obtain their medical records, pathology reports, x-rays, MRI’s and CT-scans for transmittal to Memorial Sloan-Kettering. Then an expert physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering (or team of physicians, if the
review involves multiple sub-specialists) reviews the CareCounsel member’s data with CareCounsel acting as a liaison. Upon completion of the Cancer Care Quality Review, the client receives a written report directly from Memorial Sloan-Kettering that gives a detailed assessment of the accuracy, completeness and overall quality of the individual's diagnosis and treatment recommendations. When medically appropriate, the report also includes information about additional treatment options.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering medical staff disagrees with the original diagnosis or treatment recommendations in about 17 % of the cases that they currently review. CareCounselors are available to help members present the findings to their physician, navigate the healthcare system and, if necessary, work with their health plan to gain authorization for treatment.

You can learn about the service through the CareCounsel web site or call toll-free at
1-888-227-3334. I hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,

Larry Gelb
