Dearest Sandy,
First of all, here is a big hug for you to try and calm you and
support. What you have mentioned is very limited to what we may be able
to respond to intelligently. May I suggest, there will be a number of
very knowledgable individuals on this listserv as well that will suggest
other alternatives, that you seek. May I suggest you begin to seek at
least very reputable 2nd opinion and maybe a third. It is very common to
have at least two opininions so that you and the family understand what
the diagnosis and prognosis is, what treatments are administered,
confidence in the primary medical team and a plan for treatment and
cure.
I am very concerned when any Doctor says no treatment can be
administered, especially in the very last resort, very good and advanced
progressive clinical trials are going on. Generally a Doctor will say
that because of their limitations and the facility limitations they work
for, not because there is nothing anything can be done to help your Dad.
YOu must seek out those Doctors who can help. Pls call the National
Cancer Institute 1-800-4cancer for a-understanding diagnosis, ask for a
pdq (physicians data query), phone numbers of comprehensive hospitals in
your area for 2nd opinions, and a list of clincal trials that are being
administered for the type of disease your Father has.
An alternative or adjunct method to your Fathers and your benefit while
seeking out other opinions is meditation and guided imagery, whick in te
meantime will break stress factors that might be a limitation to his
wellness and your negative emotions. PLs read Dr. Bernie Siegels book,
"Peace, Love and Healing", or Dr. Simontons book, "The Healing Journey".
And may I add this for your and his belief. 1 - Never give up and 2 -
Cancer is a degenerative disease and all degenerative diseases can be
reversible.
Also dear Sandy, pls ask as many questions as you wish here, so we can
answer any and all your concerns. I can go on and on with suggestions,
but we need to address specifics. So if there is more that we can add or
support in your support for your Dad and yourself, pls come back and ask
and we will be there for you.
