Dear Jacky Herman: Carboplatin is being used as a follow-up for
successful surgical removal of a small-cell lung tumor detected at an early
stage before it spread to my lymph nodes. I have had five out of six scheduled
treatments (three consecutive days every four weeks) in which Carpoplatin and
VP-16 are infused the first day followed by VP-16 on the next two days.

I have been fortunate enough to have been spared any side effects other
than hair loss and a not unpleasant fatigue. The new anti-emetics are so
effective I haven't had a single twinge of nausea.

As you have probably been told, Carpoplatin has been found to be
extraordinarily effective and is being ever more widely used. Your father's
problem is so different from mine that I'm not sure what parallels can be drawn
but I say go for it.

Always keep trying and never, ever give up hope. That seems to be the
motto of subscribers to the MOL-cancer list.

Please feel free to email me at clee02@snet.net if you have any
questions.

All good wishes for your father's recovery,

                                                                Claire Lee
