Hello Diana
Thanks again for another very welcome contact. When you come in November it
might be cold, and it might not. I think today it's going to be around 80
degrees.
I am taking various alternative things. In hospital, during the chemo (both
for induction and consolidation) Chinese friends brought me thermoses
containing Chinese herbs. I have now ordered some Chinese capsules I found on
the internet. Have kept up garlic supplements daily, likewise ginseng,
multivitamins, C, E, zinc, potassium, iron, CoEnQ10. Also green tea, though I
have neglected that a bit.
Last night my friend brought me a delicious meal from my favorite Chinese
restaurant. Lots of tofu. Which reminds me that, as a result of something I
read in an as yet unpublished book I have twice daily been drinking tofu milk
(called tofu beverage because of government restrictions), which I find quite
delicious now that I am used to it. The brand I get is EdenSoy. If I remember
correctly (and I don't have the energy to reach for it now), the author says
tofu is good for the white cells. I think it is bound to put on weight too,
it tastes so rich.
I have heard about mistletoe. When I was doing my original research I was put
in touch with someone who said she had attained complete remission by using
it following the initial chemo. I am interested, very, but couldn't get in
touch with doctors belonging to the society she mentioned. I have mentioned
it to my hematologist, and will do so again. Also there is that new chemical,
approved by the government, which is coming into use in the new year and is
supposed to lack the side effects of the present stuff.
I've got to say neupogen costs a great deal more than any restaurant meal
I've ever had! But it's a good idea to order out when the mood for something
fancy strikes. Fact is, I like food that is cheap and easy -- Chinese is my
favorite, no doubt, though I also love some expensive restaurants, especially
French ones. My friend brings me dinner, so actually I am eating out while
eating in.
I am watching TV a lot. Reading is a bit of a trial. Magazines are OK.
I wanted to get this off to you before this big day on which I shall probably
(if I have the energy) call my insurance company about the spanners they keep
throwing into the works (I have a file full of unpaid bills), visit my doctor
and possibly have a transfusion.
Thank you for your prayers and good wishes, Diana. I value your comments and
those of all our friends participating in this correspondence, and am sorry I
just don't have the energy to talk directly to more of you. Perhaps later.
Peace, hope, love.
-- Ron
