Hi Marty
Glad you added to my post. It is also known as stereotactic Radiosurgery,
but
from my research the only two places I found that were doing the same type
of Prescision Therapy were Staten Island and University of Indiana. I talked
with Dr Timmerman at U of Ind, head of Radiation Onc, they were much more
limited in selection of patients for this treatment than Staten Island. I
think
this will catch on and will be available at many other locations, but this
particular type of treatment is only available at above 2 locations. We
have
heard from a couple of people who went to Staten Island and were very
happy with results. I think anyone interested in this treatment should check
with their ONC's and teaching hospitals in area to see if they may have
similar treatment, however, my brother's ONC (I think is a complete jerk)
told my brother he should watch out for scams, he had never heard of this
treatment(or any of the others that we have asked him about). Last week
he told my brother they had been using Taxotere for a year and that it was
last ditch chemo. Well I was told by Tricia that it was not approved in
US for lung cancer, with her help I read several articles re Taxotere and
it has not been approved in US. I faxed my brother documentation last
evening so he could "clarify" with his ONC about Taxotere. I think the
most important thing I have learned from all my research and correspondence
with people all over the world, every ONC is different, they have different
opinions, read clinical trial results differently, prescribe different chemos
for same dx, most do not believe in nutrition, supplements, alternatives
or in talking and planning treatment courses with patients. I know there
are exceptions to the above, but they are few and far between.
Sorry for the "tantrum" but guess I just needed to vent.
Thanks again for your posts and have a good day.
Diana
