Hi TRicia
It's good to hear a success story. What chemos were you on in the trial?
Where did you have your treatment? Tell us how long your treatments were
and the date dx and date you went into remission. What stage NSCLC?
Thats great that you are in remission and apparently had an ONC which
you could communicate with.
As far as supplements go, I think every ONC has a different opinion. WHich
is ok, because I'm sure we have different opinions.
Re green tea --M D Anderson is starting a trial with green tea, leaving the
patients on the current chemo/radiation treatments they are receiving.
I think what works for one person may not work for another. We are all
different, our cancer cells are all different and most supplements are
not toxic, they do not work for everyone, so everyone shouldn't take them.
As far as asking your Dr. about taking supplements - I have read several
books that explain why they (Dr's) are so unwilling to discuss. First they
don't know very much about nutrition period. Second they are anti-
alternatives.
They are very closed minded. They believe only "what they prescribe " will
take care of the problem. It's very hard to find an ONC who knows how
to communicate with a patient. We tried several times to ask about different
trials, supplements, etc. and he always had same response. Negative.
I understand your faith in your ONC and what he/she says. You should
follow those instructions if you believe he/she is doing a good job with
your health problems.
I really appreciate your information and am looking forward to hearing
about your success. Maybe we can ask ONC about chemos you had
in the trial. Did they send biopsy of your cancer cells for assay?
Have a good weekend and may your good health continue.
Diana
