My name is Christy, I am an osteogenic sarcoma surviver. I was diagnosed
ten years ago with a tumour in my left tibia. I received treatment at
Sick Children's hospital in Toronto, Canada, which involved chemotheropy
(cysplatnin and adriamycin) and surgery. I live a virtually normal
life now. The treatment made me ill and surgery was quite painfull,
however now that it is in the past I feel that the experience changed me
for the better. I gained a new perspective on life and an awareness that
most of my peers at 22 do not have. It made me a stronger person and live
everyday to its fullest. Cancer has not stopped me from achieving any
goals infact I think that the experience has helped me become the person
that I am today. When I was ill, my mother would tell me about "the light
at the end of the tunnel" and she was right- it is very bright.
I don't know if this is what you were looking for, but I hope that you can
pass this on to the young patient in hopes that it will somehow make her
feel better.
