Re: [MOL] Mother Just Diagnosed

Hello! I am researching the same information. My grandfather also has
adenocarcinoma. We found out 8 days ago. The discovery came about from
x-rays while checking on something else. So far we have found out that it
has spread throughout his lungs, spleen, and around the heart, for sure.
Thursday bone scans were done, Friday they said that there are some
"masses" there and Monday morning an MRI is to be done. He goes straight
to the doctors office where they will decide the next step. They are also
going to check his brain due to really bad headaches. I guess it is very
common to spread to the dones and to the brain.

I found out something very helpful this morning. My grandfather cannot
sleep laying down (he is coughing so bad, hard to breathe and spitting up
blood). So for a couple weeks he has been sleeping in a glider chair in
the corner of his living room. Today I was called and informed that The
Cancer Society has full medical equipment available for terminally ill
patients. My grandfather has not been referred to as "terminally ill",
however they have said that he is inoperable, and radiation and chemo will
only slow down the process to buy him a little longer. This is really
scary. I have called the cancer society twice and have not had my
telephone calls returned. I assume this means that they are closed for the
weekend. I have been told that they will only offer the equipment one
time free of charge for one patient one time. So if he goes into remission
and later becomes ill again we will have to rent the equipment. I would
gladly pay for it if it means he will get better. I am going to try and
get a hospital bed for sure. The person who told me this was able to a
full hospital room of equipment.

I would love to hear back from you to compare stories and treatment.

My e-mail address is woods@triax.com.

Thanks,

M. Woods
