Hi Barbara,
If it's and herb you're looking for, you might have your mother try
taking St. John's Wort. You can get it at any major health food store.
It is an herbal antidepressant. It gives a sense of well-being. In
studies done, it improved depression, anxiety, apathy, and insomnia.
The info I have says it acts on the serotonin metabolism of the brain
much the way Prozac does, but very subtly, and without any of the side
effects. The suggested dose is 300mg, one to three times a day. Look
for an extract of the herb containing 0.3% of the active ingredient,
hypericin.
I'm sure there are other things she can take, but you might want to
start with the St. John's Wort. I hope this helps.
