I'm very sorry to hear of your sister-in-law's suffering. There is always
hope of recovery from advanced lung cancer, although the odds are slim. My
husband was diagnosed in early Dec/95 with adenocarcinoma of the lung that
had already metastasized to his brain and liver. He is not "cured", but
with a combination of radiation, chemotherapy, "alternative medicine" and
his own determination to survive, he is still feeling (and looking!)
perfectly well and enjoying a normal, happy life: working full time at a job
he enjoys, travelling, playing golf, enjoying good food, making plans for
the future. We hope this will last for many years, but are grateful for
each and every day.
I might suggest the following books: "Choices in Healing" by Michael
Lerner, "Love, Medicine & Miracles" by Bernie Siegel, "Getting Well Again"
by Carl Simonton, and "Remarkable Recovery" by Caryle Hirschberg.
Please let your sister-in-law talk about the possibility of her death, even
as you encourage her to fight for her recovery. Having no one to talk
openly with will not make her fears any less, but may give her a feeling of
isolation that will add to her suffering.
Best wishes,
