Good evening,
I stumbled across this interchange on the Internet and i wondered if
this was a place I could actually ask a question about cancer. My
sister in law, who lives in Egypt, was diagnosed with what they
called undifferentiated large cell carcinoma, grade III, of lung
origin, cervical lymph node, secondary site. She is being
aggressively treated with chemotherapy. I was there with her a few
weeks ago, and her suffering was terrible to see. One doctor told her
daughter to take her Mom home and just give her pain killers when the
pain gets too bad, and when she could not accept that she went to
another oncologist who says there is hope. He palns to treat her with
both chemotherapy and radiation. She wants to talk about dying and
what she wants done, but nobody will talk to her about it, insisting
that she will live, including me. Since I have come home and done a
little reading I am not optimistic about the progression of her
disease. In a few weeks I will be returning. My question: When lung
cancer has metastisized, and the tumor is inoperable, is there any
hope? The doctor there could or would not give me a straight answer,
and that information is really important. One more question: is it
common for a patient being treated with chemotherapy to bleed from
the nose and not be able to hear, and for the veins to be burned? I
am so afraid that they are not treating her appropriately. Thank you
so much for your time.
